Gel Tones are blends of various dyes, pigments, and micas in a thickened jelly-like base with a viscosity similar to cake batter. One fluid ounce of a Gel Tone will color approximately 8 pounds of soap to a medium shade. Generally, Gel Tones™ work well in all applications, but there are some exceptions for specific colors. The major issue that many Gel Tones contain dyes. Dyes often change color when they are used in a high-pH application such as cold- or hot-process soapmaking (soap made from scratch using lye or potassium hydroxide).
